Marketing Videos: 7 Do’s and Don’ts

Video Production Done Right

Creating marketing videos can help your business to increase the sales of your product or service. Videos are becoming an essential part of digital marketing. If you’re going to hit record, make it count!

Like everything, there is a right and a wrong way. Do it right and the benefits are huge! Get it wrong and video is a waste of time and money!

Before you start your video production or thinking about video editing, or which video editors to use, it is important to have a marketing strategy in place.

Here are some Do’s and Don’ts to keep in mind.

Do: Tell a Story

Stories are memorable, and they are emotional. Remember that the hero of the story should be your customer and the story should be about their journey to solving a problem or desire.

Don’t: Ramble

Keep it short and sweet, focus on one idea, and keep the length to one and half minutes at the absolute most.

There are exceptions to this, of course, but if you are new to video, it’s best to start here.

do: Make it relevant & useful

Make your content useful and relevant, specifically to your audience. Create videos that address topics your audience is interested in. For example, provide information that addresses their pain points.

Don’t: Stray from your brand

Choose a tone and style that aligns with your brand. Every video you make should speak about your brand and it’s own unique voice.

Be creative but consistent with your brand.

Do: Call them to action

Begin with the end in mind. What do you want people to do after they watch your video?

For example:

  • Do you want people to share your video on social media?

  • Collect their email address?

Don’t leave your viewer guessing.

Don’t: get locked in ‘Sales mode’

Unless you are creating a video specifically for a sales page, the immediate goal of your video content should be on creating value for your customer and demonstrating how you can help.

Have a call to action without overselling

Do: Add in Visual Branding

You want people to have a constant reminder whose video this is, and to slowly get them to be more familiar with your brand, name, and logo.

This can be achieved in a number of ways. one way is to add your logo to the corner of the video.
